Birds Eye View - Old Joy

Birds Eye View Film Festival presents
Old Joy (15)
[Kelly Reichardt, USA, 2006, 76’]
Old Joy is the story of two old friends who reunite for a weekend camping trip in the Cascade mountain range east of Portland, Oregon. Old Joy is a minimalist story of friendship, loss and alienation in the Bush era. When they arrive at their final destination, a hot spring in an old growth forest, they must either confront the divergent paths they have taken, or somehow transcend their growing tensions in an act of forgiveness and mourning.
‘Beautifully nuanced study in friendship and the irretrievability of the past.’ - Variety
Birds Eye View Film Festival
"an important celebration of women filmmakers" - The Independent
"pushes the boundaries" - Tracey Emin
The Birds Eye View Film Festival was launched in 2005 as a positive and creative response to the fact that only 7% of film directors are women. Now in its third year, the festival opened on International Women's Day (March 8th) at the National Film Theatre, followed by 6 days of international docs, shorts, features and special cross-arts events at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London. Birds Eye View patrons include: Anthony Minghella, Joanna Lumley, Mike Figgis and Juliet Stevenson.
