Our prestigious panels talked long and hard about hot topics facing women in the arts today.

Birds Eye View Film Festival - Women In Film

Bird's Eye View Film Festival teamed up with Women's Arts International Festival to bring to audiences a stimulating and informative Film Industry Panel Discussion with special guests including:

NATASHA WALTER - Guardian columnist and journalist, regular on Newsnight Review and author of The New Feminism.

BILLE ELTRINGHAM - Director This Is Not a Love Song. Co-founder Footprint Films

POLLY LEYS - Co-producer of The Full Monty and co-director of independent production outfit Hillbilly Film and Television.

The Birds Eye View Film Festival was launched in 2005 as a positive and creative response to the fact that only 7% of film directors are women. Now in its third year, the festival opened on International Women's Day (March 8th) at the National Film Theatre, followed by 6 days of international docs, shorts, features and special cross-arts events at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London. Birds Eye View patrons include: Anthony Minghella, Joanna Lumley, Mike Figgis and Juliet Stevenson.

New video documentary of Afghan women’s testimonies (developed with the British Afghan Women’s Society), a presentation of WOMANKIND’s latest research by Kathryn Lockett, WOMANKIND Worldwide, followed by Q&A

WOMANKIND Worldwide invited audiences to an update on The Situation of Women and Girls in Afghanistan. The International Community needs to do much more to protect and empower the women and girls of Afghanistan.  Unless the rights that women and girls in Afghanistan have on paper are made reality it cannot be said that the status of Afghan women has changed significantly in the last five years since the fall of the Taliban.
