War is present throughout the Old Testament and war is a man’s game. But what of the women? To a modern sensibility the tales of the Old Testament are wildly implausible. But recast these stories in a psychologically truthful light, or in a totally contemporary re-imagining, and what you have are stories that are shocking, even by today’s sensationalist tabloid standards. From seduction, torture and decapitation to infanticide and rape, here are women surviving in the most violent of times.
